Product DescriptionThe SUSE Manager Management Pack for Microsoft System Center extends the functionality of System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) and utilizes the power of SUSE Manager for managing a Linux environment, allowing Windows administrators to view Linux server health information, and perform Linux patching via the SCOM console, saving time and money. The management pack was developed to interact with SUSE Manager using the SUSE Manager open application programming interface. The Windows administrator imports the management pack into SCOM, and deploys a SUSE Manager Server with the SUSE Manager Management Module on each Linux server to be managed by SCOM. Information about the patch status and health of the managed Linux servers is passed through to SCOM, where it may be viewed and acted upon by the administrator. Deployment and System RequirementsThe SUSE Manager Management Pack for Microsoft Systems Center requires SUSE Manager and Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2 or later to be installed. The SUSE Manager Management Module is required for each Linux server to be managed. SUSE Linux Enterprise Server with Expanded Support is required for managing RHEL servers. SUSE Manager server and proxy server are provided as software appliances for easy installation on physical hardware or as virtual appliances on all virtualization platforms supported with SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 1. SUSE Manager includes a built-in Oracle XE database, but can also leverage existing Oracle 10g or 11g databases, to store all data related to the managed Linux servers.
