Session Guidelines

Session Guidelines:

A session should be an in-depth technical or managerial presentation. A session should explore an issue, problem, or solution in a detailed manner.

Keys to a valuable session

  • Knowledge and technical level of the speaker. A speaker must be able to field questions from a knowledgeable audience. A session with a technical speaker will be favored above sessions with speakers who have more of a sales/marketing background.
  • Inclusion of in-depth technical demonstration and/or a real-life case study.
  • Demonstrations that are focused from your expected audience's perspective.
  • Actual presentation MUST match what you describe in the session description and abstract.
  • Inclusion of in-depth technical information designed to help the target audience understand the issues at hand as well as propose multiple solutions.

Other helpful hints

  • Sessions that include marketing "fluff" will not be considered for approval. There should be no sessions that pitch the sales of a product.
  • Joint presentations with customers or business partners are welcome.
  • Presentation descriptions should briefly describe the expected audience for the session.
  • Distributing technical documents, CDs, etc. is encouraged.

Grammatical hints

  • In your abstract and session description please refer to those attending your session as "participants."
  • The description/abstract should refer to the session in third person rather than using "I" or "we". Use things like, "This session discusses..."
  • Be sure to use the appropriate version number when stating the name of a product.
  • Always spell out an acronym the first time you use it. Example: "The United Nations (UN) uses the following..." After the first time the acronym is spelled out, only the acronym should be used in the rest of the description/abstract.
