OES2sp2 miggui Failed to mount volume

Novell Support Forums - New Posts - 27 November 2009 - 1:51pm
Trying to migrate NW65SP8 (DS8.8.4) to OES2sp2.
miggui is running on the OES2sp2 server which is patched up to date using rug.
Source and target servers are in the came container in the DS.
I can define the source and target servers and get to the point where I want to configure the migration of volumes, but then I get a failure. The log (minus the timestamps for clarity) reads:

Best way to clone boot HDD

Novell Support Forums - New Posts - 27 November 2009 - 11:01am
I'm just wondering what is the best way to clone a HDD's data so that partition tables, data, etc are all in-tact (create a reliable image of my entire primary HDD). The reason I'm asking is that I want to try and upgrade from SLES 10 SP2 to SLES 11. But I do want a backup of my disk in the event that the update fails - i.e. a safety net of sorts.

My question is more about what software product does the best, most thorough, most reliable job. Would it be better to 'dd' the whole drive to an external HDD? Or is there another app you would recommend?

I suppose it's gotta be something that I can run from a live disc of some kind so I am not booting the drive I am wanting to back up.

Thoughts?? Any are appreciated.

Database Fault Tolerance

Novell Support Forums - New Posts - 27 November 2009 - 10:43am
Hi all,

We currently have ZDM7 on Netware with eDir.
We will be moving to ZCM.

Netware was nice because the edirectory replication was great across sites; servers - we automatically had redundancy as if one site died, the other site could continue to run applications from ZDM using it's database.

It seems that ZCM has some issues with this high availability as I can't find the best practice for database redundancy (I suppose this is an issue for any services that use databases across sites, not just ZCM). So if we were to use SQL 2005, we can have a cluster, but this would be on one site only. If the site went down, ALL sites would not be able to access the database.

Is there anyone out there with multiple sites, and if so how do they deal with the database backend to ensure high availability? Our sites are mostly in one city, but are major sites. We can't lose them all if one site goes down.

Thanks!

NIC settings for TCP Segmentation Offload in LAG

Novell Support Forums - New Posts - 27 November 2009 - 10:11am
Hi,

Due to performance issues, we had to turn off the TCP segmentation offload setting on the NIC in the LAG. But when the server reboots, it switches back to ON. Is there a way to prevent that from happening? Should I include it in some startup script? if so, where is that file?
FYI Access Manager version is 3.1.1-236

Thank you.

Zen 7 Workstation Registration Name Incorrect.

Novell Support Forums - New Posts - 27 November 2009 - 10:08am
I have a couple of Win XP workstations that contain an incorrect name in HKLM\Software\Novell\Workstation Manager\Identification.

If I run zwsreg -unreg the name is cleared from the registry. If I then run zwsreg to re-register it just puts the old incorrect name back.

I can rename the workstations and reboot, but whatever I do to register the correct name, it just puts the old original name back in.

I looked in the Image Safe Data and the workstation Identification field was correct there.

How can this be fixed? I just don't know where it's taking the incorrect name from.

Thanks

Problem with Agent "advertised discovery"

Novell Support Forums - New Posts - 27 November 2009 - 9:41am
I'm trying to test different ways of deploying the ZCM agent. Deploying the agent using a deployment task works flawlessly but there are also circumstances where we might night to manually install the agent. I believe I've followed the instructions given in the ZCM documentation but the test workstations always goes undiscovered. Here is what I'm doing for a manual agent deployment.

1. Install ZCM pre-agent from http://<server name>/zenworks-setup

I've tried both the "network" and the "complete" install. If I'm reading the documentation correct, this is where you go to download and install the agent manually.

2. Complete agent installation and reboot

3. Configure "Advertised Discovery settings" to check every 30 minutes (minimum allowable)

4. Add the IP of the test worksation to "Advertised Discovery Subnets"

5. Wait for the manually installed workstation to be discovered

The end result for me is that the test workstation never gets discovered. I am able to manually register the test workstation by running a "zac reg", but I'm looking to get the discovery working.

Here is what I've also found in the documentation...

Only those devices with the pre-agent installed respond to an advertised discovery; devices that have the full ZENworks Adaptive Agent do not respond to an advertised discovery.

Am I installing the right agent? The executable is named "PreAgentPkg_Agent.exe" so it looks like I'm downloaded and installing the correct thing. But it seems to automatically downloaded and install the full agent.

The pre-agent will only be installed on OEM devices or on devices whose registration was removed from the Management Zone

From my point of view, the pre-agent is only installed on machines that I install it on. What do OEM devices have to do with anything?

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

pciback: 0000:xx:xx.0 must be co-assigned to the same guest

Novell Support Forums - New Posts - 27 November 2009 - 9:37am
Hello,

I've currently switched from SLES10 SP2 to SLES11 (I've reinstalled it... I not tested the upgrade-feature)...
On SLES10 SP2 I have done successfully some tests with passing through a few NICs to different DomUs... I've done this as described here:
Cool Solutions: SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 VM Network Configuration Examples
in Section "Exercise 3 - Configure a VM to access a physical NIC directly."

Now I've tried the same on SLES11 but when I execute "xm start DomU" the error-message
Quote: Error: pci: 0000:01:07.0 must be co-assigned to the same guest with 0000:02:04.0 appears.
0000:01:07.0 is a different PCI-Card... :-(

Why did it work with SLES10 SP2 and how I can assign different PCI-Cards to different DomUs on SLES11? My guests are all paravirtualized SLES11.

Thanks in advance.

Virtual BrainShare

Novell Support Forums - New Posts - 27 November 2009 - 8:50am
Having never been able to attend BrainShare in the past (this year would have been my first :() my memories all revolve around virtual attendance.

Whilst I was not physically present I still enjoyed the spirit of BrainShare through the magic of the Internet with reports from the SysOps of the day to the novell.community.chat forum, the SysOp webcam (given the time difference between SLC and the UK I remember tuning in to see no-one ... had to wait until the afternoon here!), various blogs that sprung up (Bert Plat springs to mind) plus of course the various keynotes that were posted on Novell's web site.

I also remember the excitement surrounding the sessions and trying to get hold of various presentations before, during or afterwards. Later of course they made it more difficult for non-attendees to get those but that didn't stop me trying! ;)

I look forward to next year when I WILL finally get to BrainShare - as a new Knowledge Partner I'll be helping out in the support booth and I may even be presenting if my 'Mac integration' session gets accepted!

Universal Password Policy - Associating all users

Novell Support Forums - New Posts - 27 November 2009 - 8:45am
Hey all,

I have a very large tree with hundreds of OU's. I am trying to implement a new password policy. To my knowledge, I cannot assign the base parent OU and have all child OU's inherit the password policy. Is there an easier way to assign the password policy to all of the OU's without assigning each one individually?

Thanks in advance.

Random Groupwise crashes

Novell Support Forums - New Posts - 27 November 2009 - 8:00am
Hello,

some users have random errors while using Groupwise.
All machines are running Windows XP SP3 and Groupwise 8.0.1 Build 88138.

User A:

GroupWise crashes on the very first email sent. After running the client again the issue is resolved. Error code in the Windows event log:

Faulting application grpwise.exe, version 8.0.1.8138, faulting module grpwise.exe, version 8.0.1.8138, fault address 0x000d480a.

User B:

GroupWise crashes sporadically while working on a Word document or using IE 8.
Only error given is the "Do you want to report this to Microsoft" window.

User C:

GroupWise crashes when an external message is opened. Event log has the following:

Faulting application grpwise.exe, version 8.0.1.8138, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x06272420.

Had other reports of GroupWise crashing without any warning or error messages, but no logs to add.

It's quite unpredictable and except for the first issue not recollectable.

Anyone with similar issues (and possibly solutions) that might give me an idea where to start searching?

Thanks
Phil

Sentinel Installer does not see all system memory

Groupwise 8 SLED 11 swedish characters.

Novell Support Forums - New Posts - 27 November 2009 - 6:33am
Ive got the problem that our swedish characters åäö doesnt show up at all in the groupwise client.

I installed gw8 with the install file in the gw8.0.1-88138_full_linux_multi directory ive copied to the machine.

The client itself has the correct language in menus etc, the charset seems to be the right one since all other buttons are mapped correct for a swedish keyboard, except åäö which doesnt respond at all.

Windows Vista with Novell Client and Novell DSfW

Novell Support Forums - New Posts - 27 November 2009 - 6:00am
Hi,

I have Microsoft Windows Vista SP1 (32Bit) with latest Novell Client 2 and I have a Novell Domain Services for Windows on OES 2 SP2.

With a Novell Client on Windows XP, there is a "Bad Address Cache" registry key and this is working fine on Windows XP.

But I can not find this with the Novell Client 2 on Vista
and my Vista Workstation create every time a NCP Connection to my DSfW Servers and not a Samba Domain Connection.

Is there an other Regkey or solution, I still need the Novell Client on Vista.

Thanks
Thomas

Reload events after EventMessageQueueOverflow

Novell Support Forums - New Posts - 27 November 2009 - 5:26am
Hi
We had some database problems (esentd tablespace was full), and we want to reload the events, which are now in the %SENTINEL_HOME%/data/events/insertErrorBuffer/expired folder. I could not find any documentation regarding how to insert those events into the database, or how to increase the time after these events are moved to the expired folder.

Many thanks for your help
