Substandard support

Novell Support Forums - New Posts - 26 November 2009 - 4:10pm
Hi Guys,

Just lately the support that is coming out of Novell is a joke!

I currently have 2 open SR’s,

The 1st one has been open for almost 2 month now and there has been no progress made what so ever. When I opened this SR I was asked to call back in 3 hours as there was no one currently available to take my call. As part of the partner net program the Technical Support Response Time is 1 hour 24/7? Not call back later.

When I finally got to talk to support I was told that ZCM was not supported when installed on a d:\ when I questioned this I was told that my issue was cosmetic and nothing to worry about. This is not the case and again I questioned this as a result my SR has been transferred to the Novell Zenworks Advantage Team. I am not sure what the Novell Zenworks Advantage Team does as they are not helping me with this SR, These guys don’t even reply to email or Voice mails.

The 2nd SR i opened at the start of this week i have one email from the support team requesting a chat season at 12:30am. I have not heard from them since. Again 24/7 ???

I am not sure what has changed Novell support used to the best around

Please fix it

Netware domU turns itself off

Novell Support Forums - New Posts - 26 November 2009 - 3:43pm
I have been having a problem with our only Netware domU (PV). We are running the Netware 6.5 SP8 domU on SLES 10 SP2.
I run BorderManager on this domU.
Every now and again, seems to be a couple of weeks between occurances, the domU just switches off. It doesn't broadcast a message like netware usually does and it does not write to any usual Netware logs. No ABEND or anything.

The domU has a file backed non-sparse (disk space is fully allocated) vhd.

xend.log says the following:

xend.log

[2009-10-14 15:13:09 7320] WARNING (XendDomainInfo:1279) Domain has crashed: name=FS2 id=69.

noatime,data=witeback

Novell Support Forums - New Posts - 26 November 2009 - 3:07pm
Hi,

I have ZCM running on sles11 64 bit on a VMware VM.
The server has 3 vDisks.
The first is partitioned mainly for the OS in three partitions.
/boot, swap, LVM (/, /opt, /var, /usr)
Second disk 1 partition another LVM
/var/opt/novell/zenworks/database on fast 15k spindles on the SAN.
Third disk 1 partition another LVM
/var/opt/novell/zenworks/content-repo on slower disks.

The database and content-repo volumes are EXT3.

To speed up the database and the content-repo I want to use noatime, data=writeback as options in the fstab.

But my question is does either Sybase or ZCM use the atime attribute internally, or can I just disable these without breaking anything?

Are there any other tricks to speed up ZCM? (not that it is slow at the moment, but I just want it as fast as possible)

Thanks,
Hein

Official ATI driver and SLED 11

Novell Support Forums - New Posts - 26 November 2009 - 3:07pm
I'm in trial period for a SLED 11 system on an IBM ThinkPad T60p and all system works great but i notice that if i install orginal ATI driver my X11 stop to works.
Syntom is a blank screen or white screen in many situation.
- With automatic user login, white screen but i can rotate my Cube desktop completly white.
- in Login screen with a blank page
- in init3 sax2 config show a blank screen.

Now i reinstall twice my SLED 11 and now i disable ATI repository and use RadeonHD open driver, compiz works smoothly.

So i would like:

1. with original ATI driver how much gain in performance and stability?
2. i found this technote at this link : ATI/The Hard Way - openSUSE
it this valid for my version? ATI driver ver:8.583 containg package for SLE11, is valid for me?

Reading Rel notes from ATI this new driver support Xorg until 7.3 but my SLED11 have 7.4, is this the problem?

3. will work this technote?
4. how i can restore original video config or reinit video confg?

thanks
Marco

SLES10SP1 on DL380 and high IO wait

Novell Support Forums - New Posts - 26 November 2009 - 2:56pm
Hi,
on HP Proliant DL380G4 we have for 2-3 weeks problems with high IO wait states ("top" command) after some actualizations. Before that actualizing SLES we hadn't no problems. We tried migrate to another G4 machine, no progress. ILO doesn't log any hardware problem. Any ideas ?
Thank you very much

Big Problem

Novell Support Forums - New Posts - 26 November 2009 - 1:43pm
So, an employee is let go, under eDirectory his password is changed and his account disabled and yet, in Teaming 2, he can still log in. The problem was not solved with syncing LDAP. Nor did restarting the Tomcat server resolve the issue. How do we disable a user in Teaming 2?

Planning advice

Novell Support Forums - New Posts - 26 November 2009 - 12:51pm
Hi,

After a bit of advice on planning the primary server deployment.

I have the option of using either virtual hardware (VMWare) or physical servers. The primary servers will be housed in 3 datacentres which are all separated by 100MB links and are close to the users.

I will have one primary server in each datacentre for fail over but can't decide on if I should use physical or virtual hardware. Each site will have approximately 400 users and I will be using satellite servers as well when needed.

Does anyone have any advice on which would be a better choice as I'll need to justify my reasons either way, or if someone has some stories to tell of why they went either way?

Virtual would be a good idea for the flexibility it gives, but physical has benefits as well as it's not sharing resources etc.

Thanks
Nathan

Install Broadcom driver during sysprep

Novell Support Forums - New Posts - 26 November 2009 - 11:52am
Hi,
have anyone been able to install Broadcom driver for 57xx NIC during sysprep?

I've tried both OemPnPDriversPath and installing the setup.exe/msi during the [GuiRunOnce] but the NIC won't get installed.

AdminStudio Application Catalog

Novell Support Forums - New Posts - 26 November 2009 - 10:19am
Hi,

I'm new to AdminStudio and am just trying to get my head around how it works. With regards to the Application Catalog the install guide states:

"Restricted Application Catalog access—ZENworks Edition users cannot create a new Application Catalog
or connect to any other Application Catalog except sample.mdb, the catalog shipped with AdminStudio for use
in limited editions."

Why then does the software prompt me to create one before I can use the software?

Any help is appreciated,
David

NetWare POA causing high CPU utlization

Novell Support Forums - New Posts - 26 November 2009 - 10:17am
Hi,

Since Tuesday we've been seeing our clustered NetWare POA (v8 HP1 - i.e. before SP1) being slow to respond to user requests. The server shows high CPU utilization and that's it for very obvious symptoms. No pending requests and no problem messages. The POA looks okay but runs slow.

The servers go from 4 to 20% util to maxed out. One cluster node is still on SP7 and the POA abended it (froze) so no abend log. Now the POA is on a SP8 node and its util has gone from peaks of 40% to peaks of 80% inside of a day where the only change was to put the POA on it. So SP8 seems to be better in that it's more resistant but it is still trending bad.

I've seen other threads where the solution was to go to SLES but we can't do that right now so is there any more news or advice?

thanks,
Andrew

Difference in launching WEB application in ZDM7 vs ZCM10

Novell Support Forums - New Posts - 26 November 2009 - 9:50am
Hi Everyone,

One of my client have found something interesting between the behaviour of the web application launch between ZDM7 and ZCM10.

ZDM 7 does permit to launch a web application on a WKS even if iexplore.exe is not permit to be launch by a user.

ZCM10 give an error and does not permit to launch an application on a wks if GPO does not allow to do so.

Yes i know the workaround is to use a dynamic admin user in ZCM 10 but this allow the user to do much more than we want because we can do everything with IE access in admin mode.

I am asking if this is a bug in ZDM7 or a missing feature of ZCM10.

Thank You

Martin Dallaire

Hope for people with policy problems

Novell Support Forums - New Posts - 26 November 2009 - 9:39am
Hello,

For the last half year i had policy problems, since 10.1.3 till 10.2.1
But i've received a new patch from my novell engineer and that had fixed all my policy problems.

It's calling ZCM_10_2_1_FTF_20091113_546508.zip with a file called WindowsGpNativeHelper.dll in it.

So for me i have to install 3 ftf's after the installation of the 10.2.1 agent and all will be fine (after a half year :)

because i have also a dluenf and zmd.dll file that fixed some other problems for me.

I've heard that all of these will be included in zcm 10.2.2. So for those people the're is hope!

Kind regards,
Tristan Floor

Contents of changelog files

Novell Support Forums - New Posts - 26 November 2009 - 9:21am
Hi there.

We have a lot of log files named *.changelog (* being the ID, for example 98fa9ed9-1c6b-47fa-bb13-fd1eca6091d9.changelog).

The files are located in /ifolder3/data/simias/log.

These logfiles are in binary form so how can I read it's content?

Best regards,

Ingimar

Resource could not be created. You are unauthorized for this

Novell Support Forums - New Posts - 26 November 2009 - 9:16am
Hi All,

This new thread has already started in this one:
http://forums.novell.com/novell-prod...st1869680.html
but too many different subject were in that thread.

The situation:
I have one Edir+IDM server with one driverset. The second server runs the dedicated UA -jboss, mysql, java- (no Edir on this one)
The adminUA is in the vault.people container where the other users are located. The user that is doing all the ldap is the admin user.
With this configuration I cannot create a resource. I'm not authorized to create a resource.

The role service driver and user app driver are both running. I checked the configurations and these are correct. (URL, port,
In the logs of both drivers (level5) there are no errors at all.

Anyone have any idea how to troubleshoot this. Where can I look or what can I check?
I've used Utopia nov09 as a reference for most of my settings.

thanks
Casper

Sentinel will not install

Novell Support Forums - New Posts - 26 November 2009 - 9:05am
Hello everyone. I am currently trying to load balance database insertion with multiple das_binaries on different machines. The backend is Oracle and I am installing on RHEL 4 x86_64. I have already had one successful install installing only DAS and a Collector Manager on one Linux node. The other node is IDENTICAL in version and patches. However, when I try to install, the following error appears:

question about uninstall bundle

Novell Support Forums - New Posts - 26 November 2009 - 8:44am
Running ZCM 10 SP2, on ZCC, selected the device and choose "Uninstall bundle". Did the refresh on the device but the bundle won't uninstall.

When will the uninstall happen? On ZCC, it still shown the bundle is installed on the device.

Schedule bundel install

Novell Support Forums - New Posts - 26 November 2009 - 7:30am
Hello,

i want to install a bundel-group with an offset of 3 days. Therefor I assigned the bundel-group with the schedule-option install 3 days after the device refreshes.

Now I have the problem that every time I run "rug sch" the bundel installations are scheduled 3 days in future.

Which refresh intervall had to be larger the 3 days ? refresh-interval, refresh-interval-software, refresh-interval-hardware, refresh-interval-system or all four ?
It seems that rug refreshes every time i wake zmd up. Is this right ?
What means Maintenance in the "rug sch" output ?

Thanks and regards,
Eric
