It's Brainshare Time!

I'm sitting in my SLC hotel room writing this whilst dry-running today's session with my colleague and co-host, Andy Philp. We're onstage at 11am and so thought this might be a good opportunity to advertise my sessions for this year.

ZENworks solution creation

Most of my work these days is around creating solutions using ZENworks.

ZENworks is not just a 'product' or even a set of 'products'. It is a framework. If you just install it and walk away people will be unimpressed. It's no longer just about installing, it's about the value-add which a good consultant/engineer/specialist can bring to an implementation using experience and good ideas.
If you follow Mark Schouls' series on 'the project' it will give good background into how to run a successful implementation. However, a lot of times these days just implementing isn't enough. We are finding more and more at the 'Requirements Assessment' phase that issues are being raised which require thinking outside of the box.

This is what I hope to show with most of my posts. I will be talking about customer engagements where we have used ZENworks functionality in exciting ways to resolve customer business and technical issues.

I will also be presenting at Brainshare 2006 around one of these solutions, if you're there please come along and say 'Hi'.

The session is: TUT354, "ZENworks in a Highly Mobile Environment" and is being presented on Tuesday and Thursday.

Solution challenges.

Have recently had a fun time looking to build an autoyast of OES SP2 which would overlay ZENworks 7 Desktop Management automatically.Sound simple? One would have thought so… however ZENworks has other ideas as the install is nicely wrapped in scripts which don’t help with the automation process.Mind you, I have got a nice tip from this. If you want an auto-install for OES SP2 then checkout this CoolSolution. It works a treat:

Once I have the ZENworks install working too I'll post back on that.
I'll update on the ZENworks process as I make some

Until next time )

Confessions of a ZENworks Lifer

Hi and welcome to my first Blog Post. This is going to be my web-space, my blog to the world on a life in ZENworks. Seeing as I’m new to this and you’re new to me, it seems to be good opportunity to introduce myself to the world. My name is Laurence Pitt and I’m the Lead ZENworks Consultant for Novell Consulting in the UK. I have worked for Novell for just over seven years, but my involvement with ZENworks goes waaayyyy back to when it was called NAL and came as a download from the Internet.

These days I’m involved in any number of projects in the UK, Europe and around the world. It’s an exciting life and we often have ideas, solutions and pain.

I hope to share those with people through my Blog… and hope to here back from people on their experiences too.

So, to wrap: Have a nice day!
