ZCM, System Update 1

System Update

We just released system update 1 for ZENworks Configuration Management, customers that have ZCM 10.0.1 installed will be able to update using the system update process described in the documentation.

If your server is still at 10.0.0, you will need to get to 10.0.1 first, TID 3407754 describes how to upgrade to 10.0.1 if your server is still at 10.0.0.

In many environments the primary server(s) won't be able to get direct access to the internat and will need to go through an internet proxy. If you are in such an environment, have a look at TID 3087025, this describes how to configure ZCM to get the patches through a proxy server.

For the people that want to know what got fixed, we will be updating TID 3486285 with the details on what got fixed in this patch.

Europe

Europe

As you all know I'm working in the European Support center and mainly support customers from Europe. This also means that sometimes I'll have to travel to some of my customers. In the past few years I've visited several countries and have learned how Europe looks like.
Today I saw a nice game on the Internet, have a look and see if you know Europe?

I got 93% in my first attempt, what do you get?

Having some fun at the hotel

Most of the work I do is at the office in the Netherlands, but sometimes I get to a customer to troubleshoot some problems or to give some advice. This week I've visited a customer in South Africa, interesting country and if I ever get here again I need to add some additional days to see some more of it.

As I was just on the second floor at the Hotel I stayed in, I just used the stairs to get down, and that's where I noticed a nice sticker on the door.

this hotel doesn’t have a gym, but feel free to run up and down the stairs

The Protea Hotel having some fun :-)

ZENworks Partner Events

It's a busy time for everyone involved with ZENworks, not just for the people at Novell but also for the Novell Partners.

Tomorrow (Sept 27) ENGL will be running a Webinar demonstrating their new ENGL Imaging Toolkit 5, the version that will tightly integrate with ZENworks Configuration Management. Maybe you've heard about ENGL but wonder what exactly they can do, or if you are currently working with 5 or 10 different images and start to think about what to do to create images for Vista, it might be interesting to have a look at what the toolkit can do for you.

October 20 – 22 there is GWAVACon in Berlin, again GWAVCon Europe will be a combined GroupWise and ZENworks event. A great opportunity to learn about all what happens with ZENworks and GroupWise. Personally I won't be at GWAVACon this year, I'll be mountain biking in the south of Germany that week enjoying a nice vacation with my family :-).

On October 11, I will be going to the Packaging Event in Amsterdam, an event focused at customers from the Netherlands and Belgium about application packaging. Customers from the Netherlands or Belgium that would like to know more about application packaging and the Microsoft Installer (MSI), have a look in your agenda and maybe I'll see you in Amsterdam.

Is this Cool?

Tom’s hardware

Proper cooling of your hardware is very important. In most systems cooling is done through a fan on the CPU and some in the case, some people however prefer to use liquid cooling. Today I saw two nice videos on Tom's hardware where they discuss different cooling fluids. The fun thing, beer seems to do quite well as a cooling liquid :-).

Probably not the type of cooling you would use in your data center, but funny enough to watch these videos: Part 1 and Part 2

Do you have that file?

noa_logo.gif

How often do you have the situation where a colleague asks you “do you have that file?”. Within the team I work with we've got that quite often. So if you've got the file, you put the file on a share somewhere or you e-mail the file to the other.

I just listened to the latest pod cast on Open Audio, the first interview in this episode discusses the Giver project. Cool stuff that makes it a lot more easy to just quickly send over that file that you needed directly from one to another. Interesting stuff....
