For a while now I have wanted to see how many controls eDirectory really could handle, even if they were not supported. It should be mentioned loudly and clearly that as of eDirectory 8.8.5 some of these controls work but THEY ARE NOT SUPPORTED so if they do not work properly submit a bug or an enhancement but don't expect a quick response. Also for some of these there are definite limitations with how they work. I'll try to cover those as I go.

Getting started with Novell Identity Manager, or actually any Identity Management product can be quite a task. Beyond learning the core engine of the system, and how it processes rules, you need to learn a fair bit about each connected system. Every system has its foibles, and alas, you need to learn quite a bit of detail at a level that most administrators do not care really about.

If you've set your SLES Server Permissions to be "Secure" instead of the default "Easy" (in the local security menu) you may find that installing and running the Access Manager components are a bit troublesome due to some flaws in the installation routines. Doing a little directory permissions preparation sorts it out for you simply enough.
