ODF Alliance Launched

March 2, 2006 10:03 pm

Novell is proud to be part of the newly launched ODF Alliance. The Alliance will promote the adoption of the OpenDocument Format worldwide. Made up of an initial 35 members, ranging from software vendors to industry groups to library and archiving organizations, the group will focus on educating policymakers, IT administrators and the public on the benefits and opportunities of the OpenDocument Format. The particular focus is to help ensure that government information, records and documents are accessible across platforms and applications, now and in the future. Novell is all about open standards and open source. We’re both a user and provider of ODF, through our internal use (100%) of OpenOffice, and the inclusion of OpenOffice in our Linux distribution. We practice what we preach. If you haven’t given OpenOffice 2.0 a whirl, you should. It’s got all the bells and whistles, and is very intuitive. We’ll all start seeing a lot more .odt documents – the ODF compatible file format in OpenOffice 2.0 – going forward.
