DSfW: Post Configuration of DNS on an Additional Domain Controller in OES2SP3

During DSfW configuration, you are provided with an option to select the installation of DNS. For the first domain controller (DC) of the forest root domain, this is done by default. For all the additional domain controllers (ADC), the DNS configuration in OES2SP3 is optional. However, after DSfW configuration on the ADC, if you need to configure DNS on the ADC, it cannot be done using YaST. The script provided here enables you to configure DNS on the ADC in a post-configuration manner.

How to receive an alert when the server certificate is about to expire

Don't you hate it when you get in to work one morning to find your OES/eDirectory services that worked the night before don't work anymore? When you find that the problem is due to server certificate expiration, don't you wish that there is some way to inform you before the certificate expires so that you can fix it beforehand? This document explains how this can be done.

Menu driven OES Services Check - Assist admin staff in daily healthchecks

As we know, 90% of OES problems can be traced back to one of the services in the OES stack not running, thereby affecting the services lower down in the stack.

I created this script to present a Menu so a basic administrator can log into the server and run the menu, then follow simple menu prompts to check for apparent issues with OES services, networking and eDirectory objects/users.

How to create an integrated SLES11 SP1 + OES11 DVD image

Unless you're using a network installation source when installing an OES server (which I can thoroughly recommend!) you will need to switch the SLES DVD for the OES one during the installation process.

As well as being inconvenient there are times when this can cause you some problems, most notably when you are installing an OES server in a virtual environment.

In this article I'll go through the steps necessary to create a single DVD that contains both SLES11 SP1 and OES11 that you can use to install an OES11 server, physical or virtual, without having to change media.

In-Place Upgrade NetWare to Open Enterprise Server

Currently, Novell doesn't support an in-place upgrade from NetWare to OES. This has prevented some customers from upgrading to OES.

To address this shortcoming, Novell Consulting is investigating a procedure that allows customers to perform an in-place upgrade when certain prerequisites are met.
