Loading TSANDS automatically on OES 2 for Linux

The services for backing up eDirectory on OES is not turned on by default. The theory is that the TSANDS should only be loaded on the backup servers. To automatically load TSANDS for eDirectory backup, a line needs to be added to SMDRD.CONF.

Cloud Computing is No Threat to IT Jobs

There is a growing belief that cloud computing will lead to IT job losses, but there is no reason it has to. In fact, like many historical IT changes, it might require new skills, but not necessarily fewer bodies.

GroupWise Migration from NetWare to OES2 SP2 with Transfer ID

This is my migration guide for GroupWise 8.x (will work for GroupWise 7.0.3 as well). It covers migrating from GroupWise on NetWare with NSS volumes to OES2 SP1/SP2 using NSS volumes. In conjunction the migration is suited for a Transfer ID scenario and only covers the Domain/PO migrations. This is just one of many ways to migrate GroupWise from NetWare to OES2.

OES2 SP2 Migration Guide for Transfer ID Scenarios

This is my updated migration guide for OES2 SP2 and using the Transfer ID scenario to migrate from NetWare to OES2 SP2. It covers File System Consolidations, DHCP and iPrint Migrations, along with Transfer ID option. I have also included a brief mention for GroupWise as the GroupWise guide is separated, but can be used in conjunction with this. Includes some tips and gotchas to assist in a more smooth migration.

GroupWise Monitoring in OES2 Novell Clustering

An application like GroupWise might crash but the Linux server will stay up and the resource won't migrate since the resource volume and IP address are still up. The solution to this is the Monitoring function within Novell Clustering on Linux.

Low Cost NetWare Backup to Disk Using FreeNAS - Part II

In an article a few months ago I demonstrated how to use the built in RSYNC features of FreeNAS to provide a low cost backup to disk solution for NetWare. While investigating adding several features to the backup scripts and procedures in that article, I came across rdiff-backup and was intrigued by the possibilities of smaller "diff" type backups (specifically for my GroupWise server).
