How to tell when a user is set up in Novell Data Synchronizer Mobility

We wanted to be able to allow our users to enroll themselves in our DataSync server. And we wanted to let them know when they were set up, so that they could configure their devices. Adding the users to the system through LDAP is easy. The problem is, some users get set up quick, while others can take a bit. And then sometimes there's a random error and they're not set up at all. So, how can you tell the user when their account is set up, without someone having to watch things and tell them? The answer is easier than you think...

How to set up GroupWise Monitor 2012 to start with the computer on Windows Server 2008 R2

GroupWise monitor 2012 cannot be run as a service (as of this writing). The work around for this is to use Windows Task Scheduler to start the application when the machine starts up.

GroupWise Migration: Ready, Set – Wait, it costs how much?

In 1971, the first ever email was sent. Just forty-one years later, email is the industry standard for corporate communication, with the average corporate user sending and receiving 112 emails per day. With this communication tool so critical to any business’s bottom line, the list of valid reasons to disrupt it are few and far between. Enterprises considering migrating from Novell GroupWise to Microsoft Exchange should consider what it means in terms of costs and business disruption. It’s not just about the hardware and licensing, IT needs to consider the IT opportunity cost as well as overall user productivity.

Olympics, Twitter, iTV - What is Common? HA - High Availability!

I couldn't resist this opportunity to discuss high availability, speed to root cause, speed to restoration, security and mission critical services. We sit on the eve of the largest single sporting event that comes around only every 4 years and the recent headlines are, "Twitter Down 2012:  Service Out for Users Throughout the World". I scratched my head wondering how this would look on the London skyline, literally as the London Eye conveys the Sentiment with Twitter as the gauge of status with color and intensity for all to see?

Integrating Third Party Products into Novell (NetIQ) Operations Center

Operations Center provides several out of the box integrations (Adapters) to third party products. Depending upon the product, the integration is very tightly written to the third party API, utilizes publish/subscribe to minimize network traffic (IE: does not poll), bi-directional (can receive alarm details but also allow operator actions from NOC such as closing an alarm) and several other things such as a topology if one exists in the third party product. These adapters are available to the administrator to point and click and configure and start using quickly.
