XSync is another tool used to synchronization of two defined folders. It just makes a copy of folders from folder A to folder B or/and inversely (depend on user's choice) "watching" for dates of files. Older files will be overwritten in name conflicts during synchronization.
Its algorithm is rather simple but you can keep your files always up-to-date in two locations, e.g. on the NetWare share and on your local disk, and more important is that you can access all data on two shares at the same time.
I often use Novell iFolder software. It's the best and has very good synchronization algorithm. But I need to have on my laptop always up-to-date all the data from network share which is accessed by many users. iFolder can't do it! That's a strange idea, I know, but it's not stupid.
Those are two hypothetical situations:
- On my NetWare server I have a folder that can be written by me only. But there are many users which must read exactly from this folder. They need to always have actual files. So sometimes I create or update a file on my laptop off-line and synchronize when the computer is on the network. This idea can be realized using iFolder only if all users use the same iFolder account.
- On my NetWare server there is a folder that can be updated by many users. I need to have all of this folder always up-to-date on my laptop because I often work off-line outside my company's building.
XSync can be scheduled using built-in Windows task scheduler. To quickly create the command with your personal settings please run XSync, select folders, choose action and click on 'ShowPath' button. There will be a full executed command line. Just copy the line to the task scheduler and set when it can be run.
- Framework 1.1 or later must be installed in your Windows environment.
- XSync must be run form local disk. If you need to run XSync from network path, special rights for XSync code may need to be set in your .NET configuration settings (if you need help mailto: firstname.lastname@example.org)
