“Businesses are looking for new ways to quickly build and deploy software applications in support of growth initiatives. The availability of IBM DB2 software as a SUSE Linux Enterprise appliance provides our joint customers with more flexibility to deploy these applications using any combination of on-premise and cloud computing environments." Boris Bialek, director, IBM Information Management Technology Ecosystem.

Partner Overview
Recently Novell announced that DB2, IBM's highly successful database software, is now available as an easy-to-use online download on SUSE® Gallery and as an adaptable template within SUSE Studio™. IBM and Novell have been working together on software and hardware appliances for quite some time across a variety of IBM brands. This announcement builds on Novell's momentum to deliver software appliances across a range of IBM software, including WebSphere, Lotus and Smart Business, all powered by SUSE Linux Enterprise.

SUSE Appliance Program Opportunity
Previously a SUSE Studio user would have to upload his own version of IBM DB2 to SUSE Studio in order to access it. Today with the template available in SUSE Studio and a pre-configured appliance in SUSE Gallery, this simplifies the process for DB2 users. This template provided on SUSE Studio was created and is updated by IBM so it provides an excellent launching pad for developers and enthusiasts to work with SUSE Linux Enterprise and DB2 Express-C.

Also templates and images available on SUSE Studio are freely available and are intended for users to create and build their own appliances. If a Novell partner wishes to provide support and services for those images they are welcome to work with Novell and the SUSE Appliance Program at http://www.novell.com/partners/isv/appliance/getti...

Growing Marketing Opportunity for ISVs
With market projections from IDC forecasting the software appliance market to break the $1 billion threshold in 2011 and to grow to $3.7 billion by 2014, this is a significant development for software vendors. The SUSE Appliance Program has beaten even our most optimistic predictions for uptake. We've 103,000 registered users, and we've attracted significant partners like IBM, VMware, SAP and Dell to join the program. The SUSE Appliance Program is a significant differentiator for Novell against Red Hat and others. The software appliance form factor consists of a pre-configured, ready-to-run combination of operating system, middleware and application. IDC forecasts the software appliance market will break the $1 billion threshold by 2011 and will grow to $3.7 billion by 2014.

Join the Momentum
Going forward, you should expect to see more ISVs join this OEM program and begin offering appliances across their product lines. We think SUSE Gallery, our online showcase of appliances, will help spur even greater adoption. As more ISVs join and begin offering their application as preconfigured appliances, we're starting to see more recognition and pull from end-user customers. We look forward to sharing the benefits of software appliances with even more members of the Novell PartnerNet community in 2011.
