NetIQ AppManager + Novell Operations Center = cool solution

(View Disclaimer)

With the acquisition of Novell comes the merging of technologies. I can tell you that there is excitement inside of Novell and NetIQ around combined product portfolios to solve some real challenges for IT.

Over the years of selling Operations Center (under its different names), we encountered customers who have had challenges with end to end monitoring of their environment and in some cases, shelf-ware they purchased and never successfully deployed. The customers have looked to us several times to provide monitoring solutions where none existed and/or for more point solution specific monitoring.

Anyways, for these situations, we have leveraged some of our own technologies to watch log files, synthetically test websites and databases as well as several other types of monitoring. Customers have used our Experience Manager, Event Manager and even our Data Integration adapters to fill holes within their monitoring.

Today we now have additional options such as NetIQ AppManager. Novell Operations Center already has an adapter into AppManager, so it is a matter of deploying this solution in order to provide granular monitoring on your Windows and Unix environments. The data and metrics served up by AppManager provide health and availability details that in turn will drive your Service views. Another option is to pull the inventory data from AppManager and populate Operations Center CMS for ITIL based projects. Of course I am only speaking to the basics of what AppManager does, so there is a much longer list of features and functionality.

I am looking forward to helping drive the direction of the products and solving some real challenges within IT. I've only talked about two products here and there are many more great solutions available today. For a Novell Operations Center customer, you can add NetIQ products to enrich your Service Views. For a NetIQ customer you can add Operations Center to provide a higher level Dashboard or even automated population of a CMDB. Stay tuned...
