Problem

A Forum reader asked:

"I'm running a box with 3 trees configured (SLES 9). I have Novell Audit 2.0.2 installed and it runs fine on the first instance where the SLS is installed.

What appears to happen is that the instances don't start up automatically and therefore the instrumentation doesn't start automatically. If I start the instances and then do the installation and choose to start the instrumentation, the script shows the instrumentation loading for all instances. Then I start to see events.

Anyone know how to load everything at boot cleanly?"

And here's a suggestion from Aaron Burgemeister ...

Solution

This is how 8.8 works - the first instance starts and stops cleanly, but the others do not.

It's fairly easy to add a command in your ndsd script under start) and
stop) which reads something like the following:

ndsmanage startall
ndsmanage stopall

Or, you could even have it explicitly start and stop certain instances. Anyway, it's left to you to do, but it really is easy. Test it a few times, though. Eventually you should be able to use the 'rcndsd stop' and 'rcndsd start' commands without missing any instances or getting any "Found old PID...starting anyway" messages.

Disclaimer: As with everything else at Cool Solutions, this content is definitely not supported by Novell (so don't even think of calling Support if you try something and it blows up).

It was contributed by a community member and is published "as is." It seems to have worked for at least one person, and might work for you. But please be sure to test, test, test before you do anything drastic with it.
