Blog Entry
Next week I will be recording a slot for Novell Open Audio on ZENworks 7 Support Pack 1. That's due for release in the very near future - and I'll be talking about some of the new platforms we will support and a new feature that we'll be rolling into the release.
I'll also take the chance to answer any questions that you post on this blog - so here's your chance.
Post your ZENworks related questions here - and I'll select the best ones to answer on Open Audio next week. If you leave your name I'll even give you a mention.
Looking forward to those questions. Remember - anything goes :)

The next release of ZENworks
Submitted by Martin Buckley (not verified) on 7 June 2006 - 7:42pm.
The next release of ZENworks - codename Brimstone is planned for next year.
I was hoping to make an entire podcast on the Brimstone release and our progress to date later in the summer.
I'll make sure I give it a real quick overview.

I would like a good description of the new Kerberos support and how customers will be able to utilize this in Active Directory environments.

Bryan Well I went digging

Bryan
Well I went digging around - and you're memory is correct.
We will have support for Dynamic Local User (DLU) and Kerberos in ZENworks 7 SP1.
This isn't adding support for your AD-centric world though. It's a very specific use case for a few customers.
I'll keep asking - and hopefully we can answer on Open Audio.

Martin - we're an AD-free
Submitted by Tadd Moore (not verified) on 9 June 2006 - 12:54pm.
Martin - we're an AD-free environment, and want to be sure that DLU continues to work with XP and potentially Vista. We'd heard from an SE some time back that this would go away at some point (when ZDM gets a significant overhaul)...could you clarify this?
Also, if ZSM is included in the support pack, where does this product stand?

Tadd DLU continues to be

Tadd
DLU continues to be important - especially for the non-AD shops.
As for ZSM in SP1 - there are some improvements - I'll try to call them out in the interview tomorrow.

We use ZENworks PXE imaging
Submitted by Toni (not verified) on 16 June 2006 - 6:04am.
We use ZENworks PXE imaging alot in a shared public school environments where we enabled PXE boot on all desktops to automate and update regular computers. So far it is a not problem but we are concern about the security since ZENworks PXE environment do not have built-in security for Manual Maintenance mode (where anyone can access or wipe the computer) and third-party ENGL solution is good but not an option for us.
Also we use the DMIDECODE tool to retrieve the BIOS Asset and use it to automate the naming of computer.
(Example
--> assettag=$(dmidc | grep -A 10 'Chassis Information$' | grep 'Asset Tag' | cut -d ' ' -f 3)
zisedit name=$assettag
And since Zenworks can retrieve a lot of hardware information including BIOS info, is there a way that you can make it availbe to use in shell so we don't have to depend on third-party util.
So is there any plan for these items:
1. Security for PXE environment - i.e. password for manual Maintaince Mode
2. Utilization hardware infor (BIOS) from Zenworks to shell to automate Imaging Tasks without the need of 3rd party tools.
Thanks
