In part two of this series... which I plan to keep going for quite some time, I wanted to take a moment to point you to another site out there that NEEDS to be reviewed heavily, looked at, and leveraged as much as possible if you are in the least bit interested in packaging applications to be delivered using ZENworks.

I was out in the UK a couple of weeks ago speaking at a conference, and I bumped into someone that has commented on Cool Blogs in the past (specifically on the packaging post I did a little while ago). His name is Roel van Bueren (not Armin van Buuren for all you trance types) who runs a site called MSIWisdom. Roel and I chatted for quite some time about packaging in general, the complexities surrounding it, and why people all over the world need information like this to properly package and deliver software to workstations on the network. This site is GREAT, and Roel is doing fantastic work. I strongly encourage you to check out his site, register for an account, and start consuming the knowledge of others.

It was a pleasure to chat with Roel. As mentioned we chatted a lot about packaging, the work he's done... then of course we talked about our other shared interest... trance music (it's always a pleasure meeting someone else who is a fan of great DJs like Armin van Buuren, and Paul van Dyk). :)

Cheers!!

I think that it is great

I think that it is great that someone has spent the countless hours needed to figure out the whole Microsoft Installer mechanism. I have a pretty good handle on the process but, unfortunately, it is like being forced to learn Sanskrit in order to build application installs.

If we could somehow take a step back and tell Microsoft that we won't accept this mess of application installation and registry hacking anymore, there could be a much better way of dealing with this issue.

A messed up MSI installation can result in a completely unfixable application install. Who designs this stuff?
