What's that touching my leg?

Is the ideal capacity of the subway simply the maximum amount of poor souls you can squeeze in to each train? Are the worker bees nothing more than clowns being squeezed in to an old VW bug? How do you balance the real needs of all the users, with the available resources of the system? Are the requirements of all users the same, or should special consideration be taken for the elderly or children? How do I avoid having to sit next to “that guy”?

Everything old is nouvelle again

The fashion industry has a great concept where trends are always repeated. They call this the fashion cycle. Every morning on my commute in to work I observe this in person. Apparently 80’s fashions are back in style now, albeit streamlined a bit from their original incarnations. I see endless streams of women wearing off the shoulder blouses that could have come from a Cyndi Lauper’s closet and an army of men trying to be Gordon Gecko. Thank goodness I don’t wear a suit to work!

This thing feels like plastic

About 10 years ago, I was young and naïve, and was sold by marketing hype on a newer better design for an electric guitar from a company called Parker. The slick glossies that I came across had me salivating at the thought of a new and better way to play my music. Could these things actually make me a better musician?

Mainframe "is" mainstream

Using Mainframes is becoming more and more mainstream. The value-add of leveraging mainframes for quick deployment and lowering costs is becoming more of a standard practice. There are some great solutions for leveraging mainframes... sorry, corrupted sector in my brain, I meant Virtualization everywhere I said Mainframe.

I'm Thinking of Taking up Smoking

I don’t think anyone has ever told me that before. In fact if I were to bring up the idea with my wife, I would probably have to sleep on the couch...
