A network service that provides information about an entity of interest. It is like an electronic phone book to help network clients find services. There are several designs, including the X.500 standard, the Domain Name System, and eDirectory.eDirectory is a global, distributed, replicated database built into NetWare that maintains information about every resource on the network. It enables centralized management of networks of any size, and has a hierarchical, tree-like structure.
