File Transfer ProtocolA part of the TCP/IP suite of control procedures for downloading files from a remote host computer to a local computer. FTP can be implemented either from a Telnet client by using mostly UNIX commands, or by using a software program that automates many of the functions for you. The FTP protocol is also supported by many World Wide Web browsers such as Mosaic, Mozilla, and Netscape, and Internet Explorer.
