This is an interesting look and self-assessment on Novell by John Dragoon, Novell CMO and Channel Chief. In his blog, John examines an article from Scott Campbell of Channel Web on the top 10 rules for a successful Channel Playbook ( http://www.crn.com/it-channel/223000374;jsessionid... ) and grades Novell against these rules.
John looks at rules 1 - 5:

John looks at rules 6 - 10:

This provides great insight into Novell's goals and priorities in our partner-led sales model. As a partner, what do you think about the grades John gave Novell?

Wow, all A's and B's and one C+ hmmmmm.
If that were in ANY way accurate:
- They would not have had to fend off an unwelcome buy out attempt and unless anyone be mistaken that was an attempt to acquire and the be sold off piecemeal.
- They would not have a stock price that is in the toilet.
- They would not be struggling to sell OES2
- They would not be utterly and completely lost in their product focus
- They would not be losing the installed base in droves
- They would not have lost the ( my jaw hit the floor ) City of Los Angeles!
As I blogged in "Novell RIP?" right after the news of the buyout hit, the Novell Board needs to sack the current management team because all they are doing is running this company into the ground.
Anyone with a C?O title just needs to be shown the door and now. We have to show stock holders we are serious and that we mean to compete and complete HARD and this management team just looks like a bunch of deer in the headlights that the semi just hasn't hit, yet.
