GWArchive Provides a Secure Email Archiving Policy and Manages Email Risks at Geisinger Health System

Founded in 1915, Geisinger Health System (Danville, PA) is a physician-led, integrated health care system dedicated to patient care, education, research, and community service that spans 40 counties in central and northeastern Pennsylvania and serves approximately two million people. Geisinger is comprised of three regional medical centers, a 650-member group practice, a not-for-profit health insurance company and the Center for Health Research-dedicated to creating innovative new models for patient care, satisfaction and clinical outcomes. Geisinger is committed to educating the next generation of caregivers - physicians, nurses, technologists, pharmacists - and to providing lifelong learning to its approximately 11,000 employees. To meet the messaging and collaboration needs of its employees, Geisinger uses Novell GroupWise. Seventeen GroupWise POs provide the organization with a reliable and secure email system, which is crucial for entities belonging to a highly regulated industry, such as healthcare.

In 2006 Geisinger Health began the design and implementation of a comprehensive system for electronic records retention, including email, that addressed the needs for electronic legal discovery and content management and met the privacy and security requirements of HIPAA.
