To be as "accommodating" as possible, a tiered approach was used to allow some users to have larger quotas than others based on their position. Also, Mac users were left with a quota that reflected their mailbox size at the end of the project, which would be left due to the lack of an "acceptable" archiving method. Our Mac users are our worst offenders for not cleaning out old email and data files that are no longer needed. (Some more than others). No one, and that means NO ONE including the President's office, is given unlimited quotas.
Imagine my surprise when one of our worst Mac users has his assistant call in a help desk ticket to request a new quota on his mailbox. The ticket contained the following: "needs to have his mailbox size increased with position change....said this would be an 'unlimited' mailbox, but it would be the same settings as for other deans." I managed to bite my tongue before I blurted out something guaranteed to grant me a pink slip. Instead I went to speak with the help desk tech who took the call, explained about the quotas again to ensure they understood that no one gets unlimited mailboxes and shared a laugh about how some people don't understand disk space isn't endless.
I closed the ticket with the response of: "Quota is already at the size for Deans.". I never did change his quota and I haven't heard a peep back ‑ yet. I'm sure this one will bite me back at some future date.
