The most basic way to access the Internet. Dial-up uses regular telephone lines, and generally refers to the kind of connection one makes when using a terminal emulator and a regular modem. Dial-up requires an ISP (Internet Service Provider).Dial-up is typically a lot slower than a high-speed connection like digital subscriber line (DSL). Due to technology restrictions, the maximum data transfer rate that can be achieved with a dial-up modem is limited to 56 Kbps, or 56 thousand bits per second.
