1. A request that initiates an action. For example, a Busy Search produces a service request for the Post Office Agent (POA); a directory synchronization request produces a service request for the Message Transfer Agent (MTA).2. Any request from the network that causes the server to invoke a NetWare Core Protocol (NCP) routine. Examples include requests to authenticate a user, read a disk block, or queue a print job.
