Extensible Markup Language search for term: An open standard for creating structured documents and data (that is, spreadsheets, address books, configuration parameters, transactions, etc.) on the Internet. It uses a tag structure similar to HTML, but XML allows tags to be defined by the developer of the page. Thus, virtually any data items can be identified, allowing Web pages to function like database records.
