A mechanism for storing information about an individual user or group of users. Typically, sites collect and store two types of information:

  • Personal information provided by the users themselves, such as account registration and preferences
  • Tracking information such as pages viewed or items purchased

For each user, the profile consists of values for a set of predefined fields plus values of custom user attributes.
