We're moving to a new way of providing hot patches, which will make it even easier for you to get hold of them. Following on from the work done to consolidate product downloads and patch downloads on one site, we're able to make ZENworks hot patches available this way also. We will put the link for the hot patch on the "Updates" TIDs for the products, for example ZDM7 and ZDML7 and ZSM7: we think this is a quicker and simpler way for you to get hold of patches, and doesn't require the use of the hot patch mailer (it's still there for the time being, but we'll be phasing it out as patches are made available in the "new" way. My next job is to go through all the ZEN7 TIDs that reference the hot patch mailer, and change them to refer to the update TIDs.

One thing to bear in mind with the new system: you have to authenticate through Novell login to get the patch, and I'd urge you to use a valid email address for this, as it's our best way to get in touch with you if we find a problem with the patch, or to enable us to get your opinion on whether a patch should go "public" instead of "beta"...

Let me know what you think...

Awesome, finally! Asked so many times for this, an easy and better way to distribute the HP's.

They've been available for

They've been available for many months now, all for the cost of an email - details were in every TID that contained a fix, it just took a while for some of those TIDs to get updated (see http://www.novell.com/coolblogs/?p=416 for some insight). I'd be interested to know what problems you had with that system? What we're doing now is cutting out one step, so you can go to one place to see when a Hot Patch is released.

We did not get notifies

Submitted by Sebastiaan Veld (not verified) on 1 March 2007 - 3:14am.

We did not get notifies (email) when new Hotpatches were available. So, I've had a few incidents with NTS around ZFD7 imaging (in my case) HP DX2000 and 2200 machines where one would work with HP1, but then HP2 broke the other again. NTS said that even not they are notified about the new hotpatches, so we were working out problems even when the new Hotpatch (at that time Hotpach2) already was available.

Altough ZFD7SP1HP3 is not yet listed on download.novell.com, but others are, I can now see if all Hotpaches come available this way is there's a new one. Think most of us on a dayly base check out download.novell.com for downloads and patches. So, please do not only put them in TID's, but also place them all on the download site (with a huge warning). Cause I read this blog of yours I got to see there was HP3 now and it solved the imaging problems for all our harware. Normally I would have send an email to the ZEN feedback account serveral times a month to see if there was a new hotpatch. In case of problems not always it's easy to find the right TID. Looking for and testing patches might then solve the problem more quickly for me and my customers. So, the new system is better:)

Thanks for that explanation,

Thanks for that explanation, I can see now why this might be better for you. The hot patch is on the download site, just not searchable. Novell doesn't want customers to "just test" hot patches ideally, because they contain multiple changes, and we only recommend them being used if you are experiencing one of the documented issues.
