From eDirectory release of 8.8 SP3 onwards, eDirectory iMonitor users have to enable the event statistics settings in order to view the iMonitor event statistics summary. This cool solution will let users know how to enable / disable events, to view the event trace and to view the event summary through eDirectory (post 8.8 SP2) iMonitor.
Enabling Event Statistics through iMonitor:
- Click the 'nds iMonitor' Link on the left top corner
- In that page under the tab "NDS iMonitor Configuration", enable the "Advanced Mode
(possibly dangerous)" option and click 'submit'.
(Please mind that this is not advisable as some of the administrator setting might changed here) - Click on 'Agent Configuration' on the left side.
- Again on the left side click 'Permanent Settings' link
- Now on the left side, under "Permanent Settings" link, click 'change'
- On the right side, under "Parameter Options" tab, select the "EVENT STATISTICS ENABLE" type from the drop down box, click on the boolean value 'True” and click 'save'
- Go to 'Trace Configuration' -> Under 'Trace', click the link "Event Configuration"
- Select the events you want to monitor that through the check boxes against each event on the right side.
- Click update at the bottom of the page. If you want to get the traces of those events click "Trace On" button as well at the bottom of the page.
- Do the operations against the eDirectory Server.
- If you have opted for getting the traces, click the 'Trace Live' on the left side -> click "Refresh On" and view the live trace of the events happening.
- Also you can view the event summary which tells you how many times the event has happened etc as follows:
- Click "Agent Activity" on the left side
- Under the "Events" tab, click "Statistics". This will show the summary of the event statistics.
Disabling Event Statistics through iMonitor:
- Click the 'nds iMonitor' Link on the left top corner
- In that page under the tab "NDS iMonitor Configuration", enable the "Advanced Mode
(possibly dangerous)" option and click 'submit'.
(Please mind that this is not advisable as some of the administrator setting might changed here) - Click on 'Agent Configuration' on the left side.
- Again on the left side click 'Permanent Settings' link
- Now on the left side, under "Permanent Settings" link, click 'change'
- On the right side, under "Parameter Options" tab, select the "EVENT STATISTICS ENABLE" type from the drop down box, click on the boolean value 'False' and click 'save'
Disabling the advanced mode through iMonitor:
- Click the 'nds iMonitor' Link on the left top corner
- In that page under the tab "NDS iMonitor Configuration", disable the "Advanced Mode (possibly dangerous)" option and click 'submit'.

Event stats, cool!
Submitted by geoffc on 17 July 2009 - 10:09am.
Now that is VERY interesting! I did not notice this get added! Thanks for calling attention to it!
Now for the far more important question...
What is the downside to enabling this? For IDM, we know what the penalty for DStrace at level 3 or so for a driver is, see these articles:
http://www.novell.com/communities/node/5831/how-ds...
http://www.novell.com/communities/node/6316/toolki...
So how does Event tracing affect the LDAP/eDirectory servers performance? That is probably a critical thing to know!
