data terminal equipmentAny communications device that receives signals from data communications equipment (DCE) devices in a packet-switched network.In the RS-232-C standard developed by Electronic Industries Association, the two types of communications devices are data terminal equipment (DTE), typically personal computers or data terminals, and data communications equipment (DCE), typically modems and printers. They are differentiated by their wiring of pins 2 and 3.
