An intranet is a private network, usually maintained by a corporation for internal communications, which uses Internet--usually web--protocols, software, and servers. It is a relatively cheap, fast, and reliable networking and information warehouse system that links offices around the world. An intranet allows corporate users to communicate with one another and to access the information resources of the Internet.Unlike the Internet, an intranet is typically limited to one organization or one site, with little or no access to outside users.
