Blog Entry
RIM has several in-market offers for upgrading to the latest version of BES. BES 5.0.x is the recommended version for all currently supported GroupWise versions. BES 5.0.x will be the only version of BES that is supported with GroupWise 2012. Take advantage today of the offers from RIM to upgrade to the best BES ever.
As many of you know, BES 4.x was developed long before the GroupWise SOAP Server protocol was available. BES 4.x uses a combination of the client API known as the ObjectAPI and with later versions did begin to utilize SOAP for some functionality.
RIM has since developed BES 5.0.x which is completely based on the recommended SOAP interface to the POA. This implementation is much more scalable, more supportable and has the ability to leverage more of the features and functionality of the GroupWise system.
In addition, BES version 4.1 has been transitioned through its life cycle and is now in EOL....End of LIfe. The RIM/BES lifecyle page can be accessed here. RIM has further announced that support for Novell GroupWise 2012 is planned for early 2012 and will be for BES version 5.0. Also note that BlackBerry MVW Version 5.1 requires BES 5.0 or higher. See http://www.blackberry.com/mvs.
So now that you know all of the reasons that you need to upgrade to BES 5.0, let's talk about some incentives to get your organization moving :)

Free Playbook?

Not to be rude but is the RIMS idea of salvation? If RIM wants to stave off the exodus of followers to apple and android they need to do one of two things, stop robbing small biz on the price of BES, give it to small biz or at least make it reasonably affordable.
I own a hosting platform for small broadcast booking agents and ministry of health Ontario clients. They were all on BB's and wanted integration with GroupWise 8. When we scaled out the cost to implement BES it was double the cost of the GroupWise software. That was killed immediately. Blackberry needs to do one of two things and likely both. Add async to their phones so you have the option of using the native GroupWise Mobility Connector or give away the BES system or make it an AFFORDABLE per user hosted service.
80% of N.A business, is small business. RIMS pricing structure is targeted at those larger companies with big budgets and in today's economy even those businesses are tightening strings.
Giving a tablet away is hardly compensation. Give away the ability to use it, and people with buy it.

What about BES Express V5 for Groupwise
Submitted by mcurrie on 13 November 2011 - 4:06pm.
What about getting RIM to release BES Express V5 for Groupwise? After all it is available as an Express version for both Exchange and Notes, so by not having it for Groupwise that makes another cost for small sites and I have lost a couple of clients to Exchange because of this as a contributing factor.

BES Espress V5 for GroupWise...

I have forwarded your requests and a link to my blog to my counterpart at RIM. As you know, this is not a Novell promotion, but one from RIM. Ultimately, it is RIM's decision on what they offer, their pricing and its availability.
