Blog Entry
ZENworks Patch Management (ZPM) 6.3 is nearly here, and I've been testing it. Looks very good, with most of the things I was hoping for. One thing intrigues me - do you have ZPM, and if so, do you use it for NetWare (if so, why?).
An update - still testing ZPM 6.3, anyone who's looked at Patchlink's site will see that there have been some teething troubles with this release - Novell wants to make sure that the version we release has these bugs fixed. So I've reinstalled my server with 6.2.2.181 from ZEN7SP1 and I'll be testing the upgrade to a new build over the next few days. If it's good, we could be in a position to release it soon (yippee!)

We use ZPM 6.2.190 solely
Submitted by Aaron (not verified) on 13 November 2006 - 9:56am.
We use ZPM 6.2.190 solely for patching Windows desktops and we are advancing to Windows Servers. We rarely allow changes to our Netware boxes. Our Netware servers are very customized and we have had issues even applying server packs manually because of tweaks. We don't tend to be as custom or protective of our desktops and to some degree Windows Servers.

I have used it to patch

I have used it to patch NetWare, though not all the time. The technology is really not the leverage in this product over say ZSM to patch NetWare. Other Operating Systems have different advantages with this product. The reporting and to be exact the ability to hand to Auditors a unified or at least consistent patch report across multiple platforms makes this worth effort as far as NetWare. It is even better when the Auditors can go in and run the report themselves. Less time spent dealing with Internal Auditors then External Auditors so that Sar-Box needs are met... You get the idea.

I have not used it to patch

I have not used it to patch NetWare servers. I tend to wait for Novell to release the patches and test but I am testing Patchlink on my NetWare 6.5 SP5 test server.

That's a good thought - something that I (in my little lab) hadn't thought of...

My honest opinion is that

My honest opinion is that ZPM isn't necessarily the way I'd like to patch my NetWare servers, I'd rather use ZSM, but I can understand why someone would want the reporting aspects, certainly.

OK, heres what i've heard but i'm not telling from who....... ZPM 6.3 had a couple of issues which have now been resolved. The Gold version of ZPM 6.3 is ready to go but your waiting on getting it on your website? How long can this possibley take? If you look at the documentation for ZPM on Novell.com it's the 6.3 Docs that are available so what's the point of that if you can't download and install ZPM 6.3?

Indeed, there have been some
Submitted by Ron van Herk (not verified) on 4 December 2006 - 4:42am.
Indeed, there have been some bugs that we wanted to have fixed before we would ship the product to our customers, that's why Novell is releasing the 6.3 version two months after the Patchlink release (main issue for us where a few bugs related to date formats dd-mm-yy). If all goes well the ZPM 6.3 should go out today. As soon as it's out, either Shaun or I will write a separate blog post on it.

CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL. I've been waiting on this for ages cause we didn;t want o do 6.2 with SQL 2000 just to go throught the hassle of upgrading to 6.3 and SQL 2005 (heard a few scare stories).
