OK, so we analyzed all of your feedback on the new header, and made some important changes. Here are two different versions that we'd like your feedback on. Thank you again for taking time to help us make Novell.com rock.

Great improvement

Great improvement!

My fav is the shadowed one. Why on earth did it take this long to change it? (even though it's not changed, it's still a work in progress)

In other words: change it ASAP! ;-)

I like the second option

I like the second option better. I don't care for the dimming of the first option.

Numbah TWO!

Definitely the shadowed version. The dim-to-gray effect of the first version is quite distracting.

Thanks.

Clarification

Submitted by ssalgy on 11 January 2010 - 10:31am.

In case you're confused, the Shadow = true version is a "drop shadow" and the other one is a dimming effect.

The comments posted here so far have been very clear in your preferences, but in other places that we're asking about this, some of the responses have been a little fuzzy.

Another for number 2

I like the drop-shadow version more than the screen-dim one. It seems cleaner to me. On my hardware the drop-shadow is certainly more smooth. The dim function seems a bit jerky, which could be a function of my browser's javascript speed.

Unrelated to that, I like the menu design on both. The horizontal rules marking the breaks between topic areas adds a nice bit of depth to the menu. Overall, I like the polish.

I especially like the login button outside of the dropdowns.

I'm definetly for drop shadow version, far more eye pleasing

Death to the dimmer!

Submitted by paulgear on 12 January 2010 - 5:49am.

Definitely don't dim the screen. There is so much wasted space at the sides on my 1680x1050 laptop screen that the dimming has a noticeable performance impact. The drop shadow highlights the menu perfectly well.

Your menus need to go on the Biggest Loser. Especially that support one - that's just crazy. Sub-menus or further navigation on the target page would be better than those over-sized monstrosities!

The second version is better

The second option without the background dimming is far better. The dimming may be a cool programming trick but it is very distracting. I also like your return to a drop-down menu system.

Number 2 all the way

I Love the light coloured menus. Much easier to read than the horrible white and blue on black Novell is currently using. That screen dim thing has to be the worst idea ever.
