We use the IDM Minichecker, http://www.novell.com/communities/node/1163/minichecker, and wanted to be able to control it like any other service under Linux. If you're a Linux guru you will have done this yourself but as we're not all fully signed up beard wearers here is what we use.
Install minichecker into /opt/novell and set up your required tests.
Copy the attached minicheck file into /etc/init.d and ensure it is set as executable.
Create the required symbolic links, I used the Yast services tool as it's easy.
The service will now start as the server boots through the run levels you choose.
To manually operate the service use;
minicheck start/stop/restart

Disclaimer: As with everything else at Cool Solutions, this content is definitely not supported by Novell (so don't even think of calling Support if you try something and it blows up).
It was contributed by a community member and is published "as is." It seems to have worked for at least one person, and might work for you. But please be sure to test, test, test before you do anything drastic with it.
