Condrey Corporation Releases Kanaka for Mac 2.1

(View Disclaimer)

In May of this year, Condrey Corporation released Kanaka 2.0—a significant product update that provided Mac users single login access to Novell eDirectory storage resources through flexible login options. In the product announcement, Condrey Corporation promised a follow-up release this year that would be able to be hosted from a Novell Open Enterprise (OES) 2 Server, rather than a NetWare server.

As promised, Condrey Corporation today released Kanaka for Mac 2.1—the first version of Kanaka with no NetWare dependencies. With Kanaka 2.1, you can host the Kanaka Engine on a Novell OES2 server, a Microsoft Windows Server 2008, or Microsoft Windows 7 workstation.

Kanaka 2.1 also includes some management enhancements including an updated management interface. Actions such as licensing management are also much easier to perform.

One important note about Kanaka and OES2: As of today’s ship date, a bug in OES 2 prevents client password change operations from processing correctly through the Kanaka Engine build for OES 2. Novell is aware of the bug and is developing a patch to correct it. Consequently, an option to disable password changes has been added to Kanaka and by default, is disabled for OES 2 deployments of the Engine. Condrey Corporation recommends that you leave the setting disabled until Novell releases the patch. Once you have installed the patch, Condrey Corporation recommends that you then enable password changing. This bug does not affect the Windows build of the Engine and thus, password changing is enabled by default for Windows Engine deployments.

There are many Kanaka customers that have moved almost completely off of NetWare and are maintaining a single NetWare server in their network for the sole reason of hosting the Kanaka Engine NLM. With Kanaka 2.1 available today—and with the ability to now host the Kanaka Engine from an OES 2 server, Windows Server 2008, or Windows 7 workstation, it looks like these customers can finally move off of NetWare completely.
