New notifications are nice

These notifications are quite nice, and informative.
There are a lot of SUSE patches, so watch out. But for the other products it has been quite helpful.

Absolute worst idea

I signed up for notifications years ago.
I'm an email purist; I want these notices to come down in plain text, without all the added junk which gets pushed down with bloated HTML messages. Unfortunately, leaving that to my server is less than optimal. As it stands, I now have to script something special just to strip off the HTML content of these ugly messages.
I'm sorry to sound negative, but I never asked for this change. All I want is the plain data on what patches have been released, small enough to easily read on my handheld. This "upgrade" doesn't cut it.
Frustrated.

Email preferences determine format (TXT or HTML)
Submitted by estevens on 16 February 2011 - 2:34pm.
You are correct, today all patch notifications are sent in TEXT and HTML formats and delivery format (HTML or TEXT) is based on the preferences you have set on your email system.
If you want your notifications to open in TEXT format, just set your e-mail preferences to display incoming messages in plain text format.
Alternatively you could try using the newly released patch RSS feeds
http://www.novell.com/company/rss/patches.html
which use a basic format (although wrapped in XML.)
If neither option meets your needs, please contact patch-downloads@novell.com.
Regards,
Edith
