Blog Entry
All development cycles/projects have code names until such a time a version number can be assigned to the release. This release was code named Eagle and thus the title! I must first say it has been a fast and furious year for the Novell Operations Center team filled with much change. Many thanks go out to the supporting cast of characters that delivered the product this year. The product has a fresh, clean look, a new name, improved quality and usability and many enhacements. As part of the updated brand a couple of integrations that are already available have never been called out on their own. Let’s talk about a few of the more notable items in the release:
Configuration Management System
The product once known as myCMDB has been branded as the Configuration Management System (CMS) and has been enhanced from a quality perspective. The product came to market during the acquisition of Managed Objects by Novell and remained a best kept secret. In these days of increased complexity, the demand for good configuration tracking and automation to insure accuracy is critical. The Configuration Management System feature is the first CMS/CMDB solution in the market that embraces the community with a social interface encouraging the participation of the whole organization. Here is a Connection Magazine article that describes it in greater detail.
Novell Cloud Manager Integration
This integration module came to market during our branding changes last fall and didn’t receive the fan fare it deserved. The integration with Cloud Manager provides organizations the ability to not only provision private clouds, but to also bring that data into the Business Service View and monitor Service Levels as business services, not just technology. Here is a link to a white paper with greater detail.
Novell Operations Center Integration Module for Amazon Elastic Cloud Computing
This integration module also came to market during our branding changes last fall and didn’t receive the fan fare it deserved either. This integration enables you to use public cloud computing infrastructure from Amazon and bring back the monitoring information that Amazon makes available to again enable you to manage your infrastructure as business services, regardless of the infrastructure. Here is a link to a Connection Magazine article that provides greater detail.
Quality and Enhancements
This release has the highest quality and the highest commitment to customer quality as any previous release. Many customer enhancement requests were addressed in this release and the team remains committed to customer satisfaction in balancing new features with product quality.
Novell continues to evolve and go through changes making this an exciting week to release Novell Operations Center 5.0. However, we will release additional press and information in the coming weeks. I would name the team that I am proud and happy to work with every day, but I would leave someone very deserving off by accident. This has been a team effort from marketing, product management, development, support, services, training, etc. to deliver and I must say, I have a fun team to work with and I look forward to the new chapters in store for the solution!
Remember, keep up with the Business Service Management experts on The Hub! We continue to blog on the product on Cool Solutions and less product focused on The Hub.

It was contributed by a community member and is published "as is." It seems to have worked for at least one person, and might work for you. But please be sure to test, test, test before you do anything drastic with it.
