But are you going to get rid of the requirement for IE? I mean really. This whole thing about having to have a windows box around to be able to upload drivers? You guys need to write actual programs when required instead of having this "a web browser Is the end all be all".
- Support for bidirectional?
- Support for the workstation getting the information about the printer status, capabilities, etc.
Printer manufacturers have built a whole boatload of functionality into their drivers when the workstation is connected directly to the printer over a socket connection. You need to handle that and act a a router of sorts.
You need to better support sets of printers as large capacity print farms. The support for now is quite weak and often fails. As an example, many accounting firms ( you know, business customers ) will have a station with 3,4 or even 5 laser printers just to handle the volume during tax season they burn through case after case of paper simply because many of these require wet signatures and their clients could care less about PDF's as they want hard copy. These printers are addressed as a single print queue ( from the workstation POV ) and iPrint is the load balancer.
Up your game gentlemen!
