Problem

There are several settings that can be configured to manage the frequent contacts. Unfortunately, there is no mechanism in ConsoleOne to control these settings.

Solution

By using ZENworks or even a login script, a network administrator can push out registry settings to control the behavior of frequent contacts. These settings work in the GroupWise 7 client.

All of the settings for the frequent contacts are stored in HCKU\Software\Novell\GroupWise\Address Book - User Interface\RFQ Options.

Here are the keys that can be set:

String: Auto Save Enabled
Value: Yes / No
Description: Enable/disable the auto-saving of addresses in frequent contacts.

String: Save Received from External
Value: Yes / No
Description: Save addresses of items that are received from external sources (Internet).

String: Save Received from Internal
Value: Yes / No
Description: Save addresses of items that are received from internal sources.

String: Save Received 'To:' Me
Value: Yes / No
Description: Save addresses of items that are received only if my name or ID is in the 'To:' field

String: Save Sent to External
Value: Yes / No
Description: Save addresses of items that are sent to external sources (Internet).

String: Save Sent to Internal
Value: Yes / No
Description: Save addresses of items that are sent to internal sources.

String: Auto-Delete Enabled
Value: Yes / No
Description: Enable auto-deletion of frequent contacts.

DWORD: Auto Delete - Amount
Value: Numerical Value (e.g., 6)
Description: This combined with "Auto-Delete - Units" defines the amount of time after which frequent contacts should be auto-deleted. For example, setting this to 6 and "Auto-Delete - Units" to Months specifies that contacts should be deleted if not used for 6 months.

String: Auto Delete - Units
Value: Hours/Days/Weeks/Months/Years
Description: This combined with "Auto-Delete - Amount" defines the amount of time after which frequent contacts should be auto-deleted. For example, setting this to 6 and "Auto Delete - Units" to Months specifies that contacts should be deleted if not used for 6 months.

If a GroupWise user is disabled, expired and visibility set to none, how can someone still use it their frequent contacts?

Tip to Disable Frequent Contacts to be seen by the user

Submitted by asakthivel on 13 December 2009 - 7:52pm.

Browse the registry for "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Novell\GroupWise\Address Book - User Interface", Here you will find a lot of entiries for address books. Find the one which looks to something like the below, "AB.0081D836918BCE1187EB00805FB4B2BE.Frequent Contacts". It will end with .Frequent Contacts". If you highlight it, on the right hand window, you will see the attribute "Show". Edit the attribute and change it to "No". Close registry and restart the GroupWise Cleint. The Workstation will no longer display Frequent contacts.

Note: This does not mean that the GroupWise Client will not use Frequent contacts. You will have to change the name completion search order to achive that.
