Problem
A Forum reader recently asked:
"The single most frequent complaint that we have about GroupWise is the time it takes to initially start up the client. I already know that unchecking "Select first unread item when folder is opened" and working in caching mode will help, as will defragging the c: drive and leaving enough room on it. I am looking for any other hints to speed up the process."
And here's the response from Tommy Mikkelsen ...
Solution
The only thing I know of that can slow down the GroupWise Client startup is when a non-existing Restore Area is defined for the users.
Don't assign the restore area to a PO. The POA needs the rights, and it will only work if the OS where the restore area is located is the same as the OS where the POA is running. For example, give Read, Write and File Scan rights to the POA to speed up the startup process.
Disclaimer: As with everything else at Cool Solutions, this content is definitely not supported by Novell (so don't even think of calling Support if you try something and it blows up).
It was contributed by a community member and is published "as is." It seems to have worked for at least one person, and might work for you. But please be sure to test, test, test before you do anything drastic with it.
