TBX.nlm - Saves Time When Backups Fail

Problem

I came in to work over a weekend to patch GroupWise 6.5.5 to 6.5.6 UP1 on servers running Netware 6.5 SP5 and found that the backups had failed. I have a centralized backup in our data center with two local post offices and five at remote sites. For our local servers it's not a problem to just do a file copy of the post offices, but to do it from five locations across a T1 would take hours.

Since it's hard to schedule downtime, I still had to move forward, but not without a reliable backup.

Solution

Using a remote console connection to the remote servers, I loaded TBX.nlm. It was quick and efficient. I copied the post office to a temporary location from the server console. It was like doing a local file copy and only took minutes instead of hours.

The following is the command used with the path to the post office. Just make sure you have the disk space before you try this.

cp -r -v Vol1:grpwisepath\PostOffice Vol1:grpwisepath\BackupPO
