WALTHAM, Mass. - January 23, 2007 - Black Duck Software, the leading global provider of software compliance management solutions, today announced that CEO Douglas Levin is speaking at two high-profile conferences during the next month. Levin will highlight the increasing importance of managing components and licenses in the software development environment - including as part of software asset management that is vital for due diligence in support of mergers and acquisitions.
Levin will lead two sessions within the technology summit at the Open Source Meets Business Conference in Nuremberg, Germany from January 23 through 26. Next month, he participates on a panel at the LinuxWorld OpenSolutions Summit, held at the Marriott Marquis in New York City on February 14 and 15.
"Companies realize that today's software development model is code assembly - and assembly means that code components are taken from various places, bringing into question the copyrights and licenses which govern the various components," said Levin. "The discussion now is not whether this assembly model exists, but rather how to manage it. Solutions from Black Duck enable developers to integrate the best components or code and help project leaders and legal counsel to manage the process downstream."
At the Open Source Meets Business Conference, Levin is twice delivering a talk on distributed software code assembly and its consequences. He gives the talk at 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on January 24. During the session, he will outline the realities of today's development process and highlight how large companies around the world use Black Duck's protexIP solutions to manage the assembly process and intellectual property that applies to the software that emerges.
At the LinuxWorld OpenSolutions Summit, Levin is part of panel titled "The Impact of Open Source on Software M&A." This session, held on February 15 from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m., will discuss how new processes for managing software assets are an essential part of preparations for an acquisition or sale. The panel will discuss how licenses that apply to pieces of software code directly affect the value of that software asset.
