We had a NUI Event @ UNAN (Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Nicaragua)

It was a technological fest, the hole university had projects on several topics. We presented the Free Software and Linux openSUSE.

2 conferences were given
* Open Proxy/Gateway @ openSUSE (alexio44@nuinet.com)
* Free Software / Open Alternatives (jvannini@nuinet.com)

The students and teachers were interested in the free Software, and most of all in Linux as a Operating System, they loved openSUSE :)

The only OLPC in Central America @ Nicaragua

This is the scan of the newspappers of Nicaragua, the informatic new is about the prize of winning the SFD 2007 {Software Freedom Day}.

Organized by all the Linux User Groups, in our case SUSE-ni :)

The prize was an OLPC (One laptop per child) -- the computer that costs $100 and it's meant for the education of kids. It's manufactered with characteristics that make it an instrument for learning.

We are happy to make public this prize. Nicaragua keeps going in the road to Free Software.

SUSE-ni and NOVELL are helping and promoting the use of Linux in the region, and we want to keep doing that, we are happy to keep working and growing.

Nicaragua won best SFD 2007 event !

SFD Competition 2007

The 2007 Software Freedom Day competition was largely based around the best Software Freedom Day events from around the world! Teams had to prepare and submit an entry and in 2007 we received some amazing submissions. Below are both the top 3 winners as well as some highly commended entries.

All these entries represent incredible efforts to take Software Freedom to the general public and the Software Freedom International board thanks all participants for their efforts. Thank you! You do your countries, and our community proud!

Many thanks also to the sponsors of our 3 One Laptop Per Child computers, Google and OLPC, which will be sent to the 3 winners. All winners and highly commended participants will receive certificates.

SFD Nicaragua 2007 Team

This was a first time event for the SFD Nicaragua Team, and they pulled off an incredible event with only one and a half months planning! They had great press coverage, including TV and radio interviews, blog coverage, four pre-SFD events, flyers and more! The schedule was packed with speakers (including speakers as young as 12), video, great FOSS demonstrations, and an installfest. The event really involved people of all ages. Over 500 people attended the event, and the attendance was very broad. The event grew support for and interest in the local FOSS groups, and gained attention from schools that could use FOSS to help their students. An amazing job SFD Nicaragua! Especially given it is your first event!

Como parte del aporte al Software Libre la Universidad Nacional Agraria dispone a ustedes un mirror para que bajen la versión en DVD o instalen en línea la versión de OpenSuse 10.3 de nuestros servidores.

Esta es una colaboración de la UNA por medio de la Oficina de Tecnologías de Información y Comunicación (OTIC), gracias en especial a Peter Pettersson por configurar los script en el servidor.

Las explicaciones de las ventajas de la descarga nacional con un buen ancho de banda, no es necesaria comentarlas.

También tenemos un imagen CD versión KDE pero este solo instala el versión ingles y hay que completar con otro fuente para el español (Losde nuestro servidor en:

UNICIT >> Terreno openSUSE

Oficialmente podemos decir que la Universidad Iberoamericana de Ciencia y Tecnología (UNICIT) es terreno SUSERO.

La Universidad ha permitido la instalación del sistema operativo Linux openSUSE en sus laboratorios de computación como medida para poder enseñar informática utilizando Software Libre.

Los laboratorios de computación ya fueron ambientados para la utilización del sistema operativo Linux openSUSE versiones 10.2 y 10.3 {instalaciones realizadas por miembros del grupo suse-ni :D}

Ahora vendrán los proyectos de los alumnos aprendiendo a usar el sistema operativo como usuarios comunes de computadoras personales.

Gracias a las garrobos y personas involucradas en el proceso, el cambio lo hacemos todos, de poco a poco.
