Blog Entry
I have managed to thread on every mine possible in OES Linux by now.
I upgrade often and fast because if i have to choose security is #1. and reliability a close second.
I also come from pure open source so im used to applying patches and forget about it, it just works. Some of my systems have been autopatching for years without any problems, even fairly complex ones.
Now i have to seriously rethink things and start testing every single patch in minute detail on 100% copies of the production systems, testing every possible function before applying a patch live. This is very expensive and adds serious overhead as apposed to running pure open source and tossing propriarity stuff out the window.
Seriously, Novell needs to look over their Q&A methods. This is not acceptable for standard services and default setups. Its one things if a patch breaks some very uncommon strange homebrew stuff but this could have been snagged in testing very easily.
