Applies to:

  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9

PROBLEM: When doing a new installation of SLES9, I found that a user could not run susewatcher and check for new updates.

SOLUTION: On SLES9, with the new https Novell updates you must copy /var/lib/YaST2/you/password to each local user's ~/.yast2/you directory in order for update checking (susewatcher) to work for that user.

Disclaimer: As with everything else at Cool Solutions, this content is definitely not supported by Novell (so don't even think of calling Support if you try something and it blows up).

It was contributed by a community member and is published "as is." It seems to have worked for at least one person, and might work for you. But please be sure to test, test, test before you do anything drastic with it.
