HOWTO: Share Folders From Linux to Windows via Samba

(View Disclaimer)

Applies to:

  • SUSE Linux 10.0
  • SUSE Linux Professional 9.2-9.3
  • Novell Linux Desktop 9
  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9

PROBLEM: Need to share files from my sles 9 machine with my windows network.

SOLUTION: Activate samba via yast:

It's so easy to do this.. start up yast2 as root. Go to Network Services and scroll down to Samba Server and follow the prompts. Specify your specific shares (your /home folder for example) and a few clicks later you are finished. It will show up on your network as just another windows box. Seemless integration..Can't get much easier than SUSE with Yast (Yet Another Seemless Transition) :).
