MOTD Without Novell (Vista)

We have been using the DirXperts MOTD utility for years on our Windows XP based workstations.

We have some new mobile devices and would like a similar MOTD on them, but they will not be running the Novell client and are also on Vista (DirXperts does not work without the client seemingly).

Can it be modified in any way to run standalone? I have tried a few other solutions but none are as good and as basic as the DirXperts one!
