Today I saw an article from Daniel Lyons about Desktop Linux where he points to the fact that Linux has been replacing expensive systems in the data center and indicates that phase two of the Linux revolution is targeting user desktops. I especially liked the last two lines within his article:

Visit the home of a Silicon Valley software programmer and you'll find two things: Macs and Linux boxes.

To these guys, Windows has become the operating system equivalent of the America Online Internet service--a mass-market product that only appeals to people who don't know any better.

Hi Ron,

Perhaps slightly OT, but any idea when ZLM7 will support policy based management of SLED10 workstations? It doesn't seem to now, according to TID#3860200. We'd like to start deploying SLED machine to pilot, but can't do it without policy based management :-(

There will be an updated version of ZENworks Linux Management soon - this will fully support SLED 10 and SLES 10.

Look for beta in the autumn. (Seasonal adjustment for US readers - just replace autumn with fall..)

Hi Martin,

Thanks for the prompt response. Is that public or closed beta? Ideally we'd like to make it all part of our pilot, but can't commit to the manic demands put on beta testers! Could be a good opportunity for SLED in an enterprise environment, hint hint!

Saying "autumn" may not help, it's at least autumnal most of the time in Manchester anyway! ;-)
