The GroupWise client spell-checker easily can be changed from, for example, US English to UK English. But when the client is shut down and restarted it reverts back to the default installation language. Sometimes that is exactly what you want to have happen. But if not, here's how you can change it permanently.

  1. For Windows 2000 you can create a file in Notepad containing the following:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Novell\GroupWise\Client\WritingTools]

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Novell\GroupWise\Client\WritingTools\US]

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Novell\GroupWise\Client\WritingTools\US\TextLang]
    "Dialect"="UK"
    "Language"="UK"

    You can fill in any language you want as the default language here; just make sure you use the official Country code and the supporting *.MOR or *.LEX file that exists in the GroupWise directory.

  2. Save this file as "spell.reg"
  3. Double-click the file you have just created, and click Yes when asked "Are you sure you want to add ... to the registry?"

This can also be run from a login script or pushed out using ZENworks so that all users get the same settings.

Fantastic ... wow ... big wow .... what a great idea...

is that what you want to hear??

WRONG... totally brain-dead idea

Right - so what happens when the user logs into another PC??

This needs to be a CLIENT function.

KEEP the REGISTRY CLEAN... leave shit like that to M$

I'd much rather users put up with the default behaviour until Novell fixes the bug!

"easily changed" ??

"GroupWise client spell-checker easily can be changed from"

Well, even though this solution helps ME, it's still doesnt change
the fact that GW8 is (sorry to say) not a product that we will roll out to customers....

I know it's been driving me crazy, even more since changing the spell-checker while editing a mail does NOT help. I can just imagine what our customers would say........

SP1.. quickly, might also solve all the crashes
